Garden Proud

I admit it.am grinning from ear to ear. Our garden is looking so fabulous this spring.Last year our very good friends moved out of state. It was very hard for us. They were our first friend here when we moved four years ago. We were both “outsiders” in a pretty tight knit community. Our kids were the same age…they all got along. It was wonderful. We shared, we laughed, we cheered our kids on at sporting events and we just connected.They were avid gardeners. There yard was so beautiful and I always admired it.When they knew they were moving, they invited us to come over and dig up hundred of flower bulbs. YEP, hundreds. We dug and dug and dug some more.I brought them home and started putting them in the grown all over our property. I knew I would reap the rewards 100 fold when spring finally arrived.Well, here they are..And, yes, I’m feeling very “garden proud”.Thanks for letting me share.Hope you’re loving spring as much as I am..Cori

Dining room overlooking a valley in Bonnieux. We eloped and hopped a plane to Paris! After a few days in the city we took a train down to the Luberon region of Provence. We rented an apartment for a week in a large 15th century home in the hillside village of Bonnieux. The apartment had a huge kitchen and large dining table that looked out over a valley. I'm missing the space terribly!

An Instant Guest Bedroom—Made from Canvas

According to our friend Charlie Scott, the one drawback to living in an open loft space is the the lack of a guest bedroom. Imagine his surprise when his sister sewed him a guest bedroom fabricated from canvas. An extensive traveler and founder of Trufflepig (a trip planning company), Scott had "couch-surfed" around the world for years, and his 1600-square-foot loft was the first stopover for many of his friends on their way through Toronto. In passing one day, he mentioned to his sister, artist Sally Scott, that it would be nice to be able offer his guests some privacy. Sally’s Christmas present to her brother that year was a custom-made canvas tent; big enough to accommodate a camp bed, a side table, and a chair. Voilà—an instant guest bedroom. Atelier 68: Interiors Inspired by the Outdoors

Atelier 688's warehouse loft in the Queen West district of Toronto is "an alternative to the commonplace idea of gallery as a white cube," as owner Alexander Jowett says. Jowett, who began as a photographer, writer, and artist, wanted to take the idea of a traditional French salon (the atelier) and include art made of vintage and reclaimed materials. Atelier 688 has grown to include a design team of specialists that works in lighting, metalwork, woodwork, often using vintage materials. Steal This Look: Toronto Kitchen by Jennifer Hannotte

When Toronto-based interiors stylist Jennifer Hannotte of Russett and Empire Interiors set out to update her kitchen, she was aiming for a Scandinavian cottage feel. With a limited budget (and some basic materials like plywood), she managed to create the clean rustic vibe she was seeking. Hannotte, who's a fan of the raw wood look, covered one wall with birch plywood and applied a coat of mineral oil to bring out the grain. She painted the remaining walls of the kitchen Gallery White from Behr ("White is fresh and modern and, especially in a small kitchen like mine, it helps to unite rather than divide") and the floors a gray shade from Behr called Ashes.
